Normal Tension Glaucoma : A Diagnostic And Therapeutic Challenge

Abstract

Normal tension glaucoma (NTG) remains one of the most perplexing subtypes of glaucoma, where characteristic optic nerve damage occurs despite statistically “ normal “ intraocular pressures. Its diagnosis demands heightened clinical suspicion and careful exclusion of secondary causes. NTG is particularly relevant today, with its higher prevalence in aging populations and Asian demographics. Understanding its multifactorial pathophysiology- including vascular dysregulation and systemic associations – is critical for effective management. Therapeutic strategies extent beyond IOP reduction, emphasizing neuroprotection and systemic risk control. Mastery of NTG challenges clinician to refine their diagnostic acumen and personalize treatment to preserve vision and quality of life
